About Dr. NicholsMy name is Sharon Sanchez Nichols. I was born and raised here in Hawaii. I attended Kalihi Uka (K), Kalihi Kai (1-3), St. Theresa’s School (4-8), and Sacred Hearts Academy for high school. For college, I attended Hawaii Pacific University and later transferred to Chaminade University, where I graduated as Magna Cum Laude with my B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in psychology in December 2004. I received my M.Ed. in Child Development in April of 2015 from Chaminade University. In August 2022, I graduated with my doctorate in education majoring in organizational leadership with an emphasis in K-12 leadership.
During my undergrad years , I worked as a paraprofessional tutor at Palolo Elementary and at St. Louis Schools with the 7th and 8th graders. I did my student teaching at Mid-Pacific Institute Elementary School with the 3rd and 4th grade multi-age classroom. I have been teaching at my current elementary school located in Waipahu, Hawaii, since January 2005. I have taught grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 until 2016. In 2016, I started a new position - Response-to-Intervention (RtI) Reading teacher full-time. In 2017, I started my position as the music teacher and working with a couple of groups for RtI. I am the site coordinator for the school's after school program under the 21st Century Community Learning Centers that has over 20 teachers teaching fun after school classes. I am married and have three young children. My husband is a lawyer and is an amazing father. Being a parent has been the best thing that has ever happened to me and has been such a beautiful experience. Our children are our world, and my husband and I enjoy every minute of it - the fun times and the chaotic times. I love children and love working with them. The reason I got into teaching was because I find joy in seeing children succeed and seeing how happy they get when they accomplish something. My hobbies are pretty much anything to do with music. I love to sing, play the piano, and play the guitar. As I tell people, "in my past life," I was a professional entertainer. I was in the recording studio in the 4th grade and recorded a couple of songs in Filipino. I also placed 3rd in the state's well-known talent competition called Brown Bags to Stardom where I recorded a song I wrote and composed. After that, I recorded several compilation music albums with other artists, including one solo album. I hosted a local television show in Hawaii and performed on national TV like MTV and a national talk show. It was a fun experience, and I'm blessed to have had that as a life experience. It's such an amazing thing to see each of my students grow and progress. I cannot say enough how much I love my students, and it is an honor to have each of them in my class and to be their teacher. |
